Begin with your clinic
A dental product is not a diagnosis. Your veterinarian can assess your pet’s mouth and advise on suitable care. If you notice a change, seek advice rather than relying on an additional product.
Look for evidence about the exact product
The Veterinary Oral Health Council lists accepted products for plaque and/or tartar control. Acceptance applies to the specified product and claim; it does not establish that every seaweed powder works equally well. The research identifies the ProDen PlaqueOff dog and cat powders in those lists.
Consider practical tools
Petosan’s double-headed toothbrushes offer one approach to daily brushing. Brush size, handling and your pet’s tolerance matter. A powder and a brush have different roles; convenience alone does not establish equivalence.
Read the cautions
Kelp-derived powders contain iodine. Discuss suitability with your veterinarian, especially where thyroid conditions are involved. Follow species-specific labelling and dose directions. Products complement an appropriate routine; they do not replace veterinary dentistry.
